Meet Allison Oropallo

With her DIY attitude and the handywoman skills to back it up, Allison Oropallo is a do-it-yourself’er living in the SF Bay Area.

Allison appeared on Season 2 of HGTV All American Handyman and was voted fan favorite. She has also worked with HGTV designer, Shelly Lynch-Sparks, on “No Mans Land” on DIGS Network and has appeared as guest speaker at the Marin Home & Garden Expo in Marin.

A STEM education instructor in Marin County, Allison Oropallo also teaches Technology, Engineering, Woodworking and Construction. Her curriculum is taught with an emphasis on project-based learning.

Allison was deaf until she was 5, she had multiple surgeries to restore hearing. This made hands-on learning necessary. She figured everything out by doing. She was born doing it herself.

“As an educator, my purpose is to highlight the power and importance of hands-on project based learning, and to bolster creative thinking and practical problem solving.”

Allison is a former UCONN Division-I ice hockey player. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in K-12 Applied Technology Education from the College of Saint Rose and her Master Degree in Curriculum Development from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Allison Oropallo joined MarinSEL as the Environmental Engineering Educator. Her project based curriculum for the 2013-2014 Environmental Engineering class included building a redwood fence around the school’s organic garden that was made possible by the generous redwood donation and help of Clough Construction, a wind turbine with the help of Energy Recovery, and a class trip to the Humboldt Redwood Company Lumber Mill. For the upcoming year, her curriculum will begin with chicken coop designs with the new Marin SEL engineering class.
